Tee Ball

Well then. This season G decided to skip soccer (yes) and play Tee Ball. Considering how he played last year, I was a little skeptical about how much fun he was going to have. Not to mention how much aggravation we would go when he started kicking dirt or pointing at bugs flying by his head. I tried to explain to him that it was important for him to pay attention and keep his eyes on the ball. If he was going to play, he need to hustle, show some effort, and practice to get better.
At the start of the grueling four game season, I told the coach that I would *help* coach. You know, kinda like herding a bunch of cats. But instead of cats substitute four, five, and six year old boys and girls. Well, due to a delayed harvest and other issues, I got to do more than help, I actually got to do the coaching (if you can call it that). So, I dusted off some Little League practice memories and did my best not to run the kids into the ground. I am happy to say, that from my point of view, the kids enjoyed themselves during practice and during the game. But what about the G?
Well, I will admit that I rode him pretty hard about effort, paying attention, making accurate throws, etc. I also think that he had a pretty good time practicing and playing. Now, I will admit to having a really good time. It was hot, the bugs were biting, but I had a blast. If asked to coach or help coach next year, I am in! Perhaps my fondest memory will be spending some quality time with the G and helping him learn something for the first time. Can’t wait for him to start playing basketball!
Here is my favorite pic from the season.

Uhm…You bought a *gasp* department store bicycle
by admin on Jun.06, 2010, under Family
So a few weeks ago it was hectic around the Hacienda and I was busy moving stuff around outside to get one thing or another accomplished. Well, in my haste, I moved the G’s bike behind Robyn’s vehicle. Needless to say, the rear tire got ran over. Completely my fault. 100%.
Fast forward to this weekend and we are at Madison’s house and we were out running errands. One of the stops was at a bicycle store. What a perfect opportunity for me to pick up a replacement tire for the G’s bike. So, Robyn and I stroke on to the service department where we are greeted by a somewhat pretentious cat. Helpful, but I caught a small hint of arrogance. We explained to him what we were looking for and he asked a couple of questions. After answering them all, dude says, “Oh, that is a department store bike tire. We don’t sell department store bikes or tires here”. At this point he is in full douche mode.
So Robyn and I look around at their “non-department store” bicycle’s prices ranged from 150 – 800. For a bike the size that G would need would cost us close to $200. Before his bike got trashed, I saw how hard he rode it and there is no freakin’ way that I would spend 2 Bills on a bike that would get rode hard and put to bed wet. I can think of quite a few ways to spend the remaining $125 after I buy his next department store bike.

Robyn and I are headed to Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, CO this week. We will spend one day in C Springs and then head up to the hotel that Jack made famous. I think that it is pretty cool that we will be staying in this famous hotel. Just hope that we don’t run into a massive spring storm!
Hello Ubuntu

I have been a faithful Gentoo User for many many years. My entire ISP runs on top of these servers. Today, I made the first transition away from Gentoo. My server zeus1tre.com, has run many different versions of Gentoo over the years and it ran like a beast. For close to two years, it just ran. But, I got the urge to change the tool that I used to blog from blogger to wordpress. Well, needless to say, I struggled getting all of the packages up to snuff in order to run the necessary software.
So, I messed around for three to four hours upgrading this package and that package. Just when I thought I had the last package updated, Gentoo swiftly kicked me in the junk. Finally, it was time to put the server down. Backed up all of the website stuff and started downloading Ubuntu 10.04 server. Installation was a breeze. Had a couple of issues with apt-get, but once that was done I am back in business. So, I start a new chapter in my *nix life with Ubuntu.
I will keep you updated with the challenges that I run across as we “get to know each other”.
